The ultra-low latency of 5G communications allows these football players to make quick decisions based on the images projected by cameras connected via 5G in this field test setup by Verizon. 5G latency cuts response time to 1 ~ 2 milliseconds, which is an order of magnitude faster than 4G latency average of 50 milliseconds. 5G will open a new universe for competitive online gamers and streaming VR content. In the global race for pioneering 5G technology that will allow smart cities, self-driving cars, agriculture, smartphones, and healthcare wearables a breakthrough in communications, there are already some countries becoming front-runners: U.S.A., U.K., and Italy already confirmed several 5G projects. In agriculture U.K. will test the use of 5G for drones and autonomous farm vehicles; also the access to the Internet via 5G in rural areas.
In Italy, Bari and Matera will be the first 5G cities in Europe using 5G for mobile communications. Vodafone, TIM, Fastweb, and Huawei, are testing the new technology. In the U.S.A. the city of Sacramento will be the first to test this year the Verizon 5G residential broadband service. And AT&T will start 5G mobile deployment in Atlanta, Dallas, and Waco Texas. Digital economies depend on connectivity and growth will be affected by the level of 5G deployment. |
