Quite a few, all joking apart, as innovation is usually the achievement of teamwork.
General Electric (GE) a highly innovative company took it very seriously, and realized that technology is moving faster and faster, so its innovation process had to speed up. For that reason although GE has R&D laboratories around the world, they decided to go ”open source” and setup a worldwide contest for the engineering community to participate in the redesign of a bracket for aircraft engines. This GE contest attracted 700 engineers and students, and the first prize was awarded to an Indonesian student who proposed a solution to reduce the weight of the bracket by more than 80%. GE improved both the product and the innovation process itself by implementing “open source innovation”. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-28865268 Comments are closed.
